Why do we need to share?

I believe that we are all stewards of our powers, which include our talents, gifts and strengths. They are given to each of us at birth for a purpose.

We discover that purpose, develop the powers and maximize them over time, so that we can share with others who may need them and benefit from them.

By sharing, we help others discover, develop and maximize their own powers. Sharing becomes a life-giving cycle.

To share, with the pure intent of giving, is very empowering for both the giver and the receiver. Reversely, when we don’t share, the purpose by which we develop a certain talent or strength is not fulfilled. The whole journey becomes pointless or meaningless.

When we share, we become more inspired and motivated to keep going. We also continue to discover and develop other powers within. For the mothers viewing this video, think about the bottomless capacities and powers we discovered and developed when we became mothers.

Most importantly, we contribute to a bigger purpose, and to a legacy that can live beyond our generation. All these may lead to personal fulfilment and lasting joy.

How do we share the POWER within US?

Oprah talked about using our own platforms – whatever form or shape that may take – to effectively reach out to whoever will receive our messages

Oprah said “maybe it’s 20 people, maybe it’s 30 people, 40 people, your family, your friends, your neighbors, your classmates, your classroom, your co-workers.”

“Wherever you are, that is your platform, your stage, your circle of influence. That is your talk show and that is where your power lies.”

Concretely speaking, the most direct way is to share our time and power with a person, group, community, organization, industry or the world, which is now possible through social media and digital platforms.

In a corporate setting, sharing our strengths, talents and gifts can be done through our job roles, employee or team engagements, customer programs, special projects, social responsibility committees, or social activities. Sharing can be through writing, speaking, networking, mentoring or on-the-job coaching, and can be done in-person, digital or blended modes. There is no limit when we truly want to give.

Another concrete way is by integrating the power in our day-to-day such that it becomes our way of life. For instance, I have actually gone through the steps of discovering purpose as I mentioned in Empower Bites 1, which has led to my personal mission and vision, which has led to forming POWERinU at work. We followed the same process to discern our family mission and vision, which has since served as our guiding light in every plan or decision we made as a family.

Thank you for allowing me to take you through a journey of discovering, developing, maximising and sharing the power in you in 5 Empower Bites. This is a beginning. Let us continue the journey. Let us keep going!
